The original had substance. You could tell there was a real person behind the artwork. This new thing is yet another cyberspace puppet. She's scrawny, she looks like a cheap vinyl doll, and does anyone really smile like that? I agree, too, that she looks like she's advertising the grapes, not the resultant raisins. Somebody get a new artist, quick.
Clarissa and Anjanette – Sounds like you both have the same take – real is better than vinyl. Wonder if they did any test marketing with this new image?
How is this about Kellogg's Raisin Bran? It seems more about Sun Maid Raisins.
Ok, so a Kellogg's Raisin Bran story.
I went to college in Michigan and had friends from Battle Creek, MI, home of Kellogg's. Kellogg's would hire the college aged children of employees as summer help.
So this friend tells me about the day she was working on the Raisin Bran line. Apparently stray raisins land on the floor – she said by the end of the day it seemed like she 2 inches of raisins stuck to the soles of her shoes.
Call me old (oh wait, I am!), but after decades of seeing the original, I don't like the new one. Too plastic, generic, and the way she holds the grapes by two fingers looks like she hasn't worked a real day in her life and doesn't want to.
The 'new and improved' version is a slice of reality. The California sun is gone, behind a layer of smog and wildfire smoke. The previous model was replaced because the depiction of women actually working was found to be demeaning and creating a glass ceiling (women should be home, barefoot & pregnant, or picking grapes and making raisins) blocking advancement.
The replacement model attempts to depict the vibrant energy one gets from the product. Her plastic looks comes from the skill of body sculpturing MD's (so she is a 'real' Californian.) She only took the job to be able to pay her Pilates instructor because unemployment and food stamps only go so far. If only the uninformed, conservative California voters hadn't squeaked out that narrow (well, okay 2 to 1) ban on same sex marriage, she would still have her $180,000 a year job as a gay wedding planner.
Wow, I'd say the new raisin girl is a dud. For the most part, I don't like her either. I don't mind the composition so much, but I don't like HER. As many commenters have pointed out, she looks plastic… perhaps the Raisin People are going to animate her?… or has this been done already? …in a commercial. I do note, that the original raisin lady has a basket of grapes, so the holding up of grapes in the new logo doesn't bother me so much. Anyhow, I like the original logo. It has an old-time feel… which I like.

I thought the exact same way you did. Especially the part of her looking like she was from a Shrek movie
Yep, the artist really needs to expand his character horizons beyond Shrek movies.
I like the first – it's classical in feel. And the girl is sweet and real.

When I was writing it the old jingle for Kellogg's Raisin Bran kept running in my head –
Rich, ripe raisins grown in California sun,
Make Kellogg's raisin bran …
etc. So I immortalized it as being the lead-in to a raisin-relevant post.

Old? Never! Perhaps, "well seasoned" is the more appropriate phrase.
Crow,

Whoa. For $180K a year, that sounds like an OK gig …
