From the sketchpad xff
It's been a while and I feel that it's time for another view from the sketchpad. Or in this case, from the computer.
It's not widely known but I like to have a good buffer of work so that unexpected disasters don't cause TOO much of a problem. And for that reason I've got a lot of toons ready to go.
Hmmm. Maybe "ready to go" isn't exactly the best phrase. Because the toon we see at the top of the page today was first drawn and inked over a year ago. November 29th, 2008, to be precise. And you know what happens over a year? The artwork evolves. I'm constantly thinking about the art and taking on new techniques. In addition, my conception of the Nicky characters and world continues to evolve. And the end result is that when I pull out a toon that's over a year old and waiting for release, it's out of sync with where I'm at now. So I have 2 choices. Just put it up or work it over a bit. And the ultimate conclusion always turns out to be the latter. Sigh. Some hours later it's good to go. Not quite the quick and easy posting I might have been hoping for.
How much does the artwork change? You can judge for yourself. What I've done is taken yesterday's toon and then put the original beneath it. I didn't redo the gag or the overall style. But I did tweak the particulars a good bit.
What do you think?
