I've been playing games with my telemarketers using an idea from Nicky510.
"Congratulations, you are the 5th/10th/whatever salesman to call today. If you can pick a number between 1 and 25…etc." You know the gag.. Funny thing is most will laugh and actually try to guess. I use 1 to 25, but cause it sounds like they have a chance. No one has guessed my number yet. Maybe they never will.. Ha!
Not too big a deal – but, actually, at least in the case of ancient europe and near/middle east (greece, rome, crete, etc.), the people would eat the meat. the idea was that the gods could only enjoy the aroma, because they would feed on ambrosia or something like it – so, why lower one's divine self to eat meat?
outside of sacrifices the only meat most people would eat would be fish and the occasional hare. raising cattle was too expensive, if not for a sacrifice. so, providing the sacrifice was a a status symbol, a sign of great wealth (in the case of cattle), general abundance (like a goat being sacrificed by a farmer), or skilled hunting (in the case of a deer).
It's just a minor difficulty. Nothing to worry about.
Reminds me of my house on the 4th!

Those are way better odds than the lottery!

Hi Andrew – Very true. But in the battle between accuracy and humor, humor won out
Thanks for providing a bit of "the way it really was."
